Wildfire: Advisory Alert – Update

On Saturday shortly before 2pm, residents in the 16000 block of Highway 259 called in a fire that had gotten out of control. A resident was burning a brush pile, that quickly spread into a pasture and then into a wooded area. Central Heights along with other Volunteer Fire Departments quickly responded to the scene. When the fire was observed spreading into a wooded area, the Texas Forestry Service was contacted.

The fire endangered several structures in the area of Cr. 144 and 143 and residents were requested to evacuate from the area. Fire crews battled the fire for several hours before it was contained. Due to the amazing work of local volunteer fire departments and the Texas Forestry Service, there was no damage to any structures.

Nacogdoches County is not currently under a burn ban. We would like to urge our citizens to use caution while conducting any burning and to please monitor the fire until it is fully extinguished. Please check all weather conditions before igniting any burn pile.
