Herbert Lamar Dollar Obituary

Herbert Lamar Dollar, affectionately known as “Butch”, and a veteran of the Vietnam War, was called to his eternal home on Thursday, October 23, 2025. He was 78 years old. Butch was born on September 26, 1947, to Herbert Moore Dollar and Essie Mae Barfield Dollar at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany Georgia.

Butch is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie Naylor Dollar: 2 daughters and son-in-laws, Shelby Dollar Hagemann (Bill)of Marietta, GA and Kristi Carte’ Randle (Mike) of Nacogdoches TX; and 2 sons and daughter-in-laws, Matthew Ryan Dollar (Ashley) of Cumming, GA and Timothy Chad Carte (Angela) of Nacogdoches, TX. Butch was the proud Papa of 4 grandsons: Damen Carte’, Thomas Dollar, Tyler Dollar, and Russ Hagemann. He was also the endearing “Papa” to countless other young people in the neighborhood and community that he loved and cherished like they were his own. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Butch lived much of his life in Albany, Georgia and was a 1965 graduate of Dougherty County High School. Throughout his life, he maintained many close friendships with his fellow classmates. He found great joy in bringing them all together by planning and organizing class reunions that spanned the course of several decades.

In 1966 Butch was drafted into the United States Army. Shortly thereafter, in 1967 he was called to serve in the Vietnam War as a Military Police officer until 1968.

Upon returning home from his active duty, Butch spent many years as a hardworking and dedicated employee with H. Davis & Sons (Albany, GA) and ACC Distributors (Albany, GA). Butch spent the last 22 years, before officially retiring, serving as Dr. J. Michael Randle’s “right hand man”. After his retirement, Butch filled his days working on his immaculate yard, watching reruns of old Western movies, and retelling his favorite stories from “back in the day”.

In 1999, Butch and Debbie relocated from Albany Georgia to Nacogdoches Texas. A move that Butch never regretted. Quickly, he and Debbie formed close friendships that became like family and for the next 25+ years, he fondly and proudly considered Nacogdoches “home”. Eventhough he considered Texas his home, Butch is, was, and will always be remembered as a faithful and devoted University of Georgia Bulldawg fan!

Although Butch’s physical presence will no longer grace our lives, his memory will be a forever cherished gift. Butch’s life reflected his love for the Lord, his family, and this country. Always a dapper dressed legend in his own right to all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday October 31st at First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches TX.
