Carol Butler Obituary

Funeral services for Carol Alice (Prouty) Butler, 87, of Chireno will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Chireno Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Lower Chireno Cemetery.  A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:00am on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Chireno Methodist Church. 

Carol Alice Prouty Butler was born in Houston to parents, Clifton G. and Althea Prouty on October 13, 1938. She passed away at home in Chireno on February 28, 2026.

She grew up in Mexia, Texas and attended the University of Texas earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. While at UT she was editor of the 1961 yearbook, the Cactus. After graduation from UT, she began work in Houston where she met and married Hilliard Butler on June 30, 1962. The joy of her life was her two sons, Gary and Alan and her grandchildren, Cole and Kaitlyn of Highland Ranch, Colorado. She was a loving and caring wife for 63 years and a wonderful, caring and loving mother to her two sons. She will leave many great and wonderful memories.  She was an active member of Chireno Methodist Church, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Huguenot Society of Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Hilliard Butler; sons, Alan Butler and wife, Danielle, and Gary Butler; grandchildren, Cole Butler and Kaitlyn Butler; sister-in-law, Joy Keeling; brother-in-law, Harold Hagle; and her “oldest friend”, Pat Sacaris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton G. and Althea Prouty; brother-in-law, Durward Butler and wife, Ann; sisters-in-law, Janice McMullen and husband, Alfred, and Sandra Hagle; and brother-in-law, Mark Keeling.
