Mary Lou Campbell Obituary

September 13, 1939 – October 26, 2025

I was born in Holland, Michigan and moved to Nacogdoches in 1953 with my parents and brother. I graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1957. I worked for several years as a teller in the CBTx drive-in. Later I worked for Rob Harris as office manager for Piney Woods Tom’s for several years.

I was married to Van (Sonny) Sims for over 48 years when he passed away in 2004. He and I retired in 1994 and moved to Toledo Bend Lake for 6 years which my husband enjoyed immensely as he loved to fish (not me so much). We moved back to Nacogdoches in 2000 and it was coming home for us. Sonny was beginning to have health problems so we decided it was best for us to be close to doctors.

Jim Campbell and I married in 2006 and I inherited a clan. Sonny and I never had children and right after I said “I do” to Jim, I became the proud mother of 3 daughters plus husbands, grandmother of 7 and great-grandmother of 3 with number 4 on his way…it was a marvelous feeling to be so accepted into a fantastic family (I was informed by Jim’s oldest daughter they didn’t do “steps” in the family).

I love to read, do crossword puzzles and work in my flower beds. I joined Pilot in May 2005 sponsored by Carolyn Sims and Nan Mosley. I have enjoyed every minute of being a Pilot. It is a great organization filled with amazing ladies. It’s like having a whole bunch of sisters. We do many great things and I guess what really impresses me is the fact that we do it with so much enthusiasm.

I also enjoy helping with Project Lifesaver which is such a necessary need in our society today. We belong to a fantastic organization of women.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery, 6296 TX-21, Nacogdoches, TX 75961.
