Lumberjacks Fall to Redhawks in Series Finale

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost the series finale to the Seattle U Redhawks. The two teams capped off the three game WAC series today with Seattle U going for the series sweep.

The Redhawks started the scoring with one-run in the first inning, 1-0. The Lumberjacks went scoreless in the bottom of the first only picking up one hit in the inning. In the top of the second inning Seattle U brought in one run off a double into left field. Shortly after the Redhawks hit a three-run home run to center field to extend their lead, 5-0. In the bottom of the second Seattle U held the Lumberjacks to a three up three down inning. Both teams went scoreless in the third keeping the score at 5-0. The Redhawks extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning scoring two more runs, 7-0. Nolan Brown started the fourth inning off hitting his ninth home run of the year with a solo shot over the right field wall to cut into the Redhawks lead, 7-1. 

Seattle U came to the plate in the top of the fifth inning and were able to score two runs and extend their lead, 9-1. The top of the sixth inning started off with a Redhawks solo home run, 10-1. Seattle U added seven runs in the eighth on five hits and extended their lead, 17-1. SFA was able to push one run across in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to a Tom Biggs single into right field scoring Tyree Carr. The Lumberjacks were not able to push anything else across in the bottom of the eighth and the Redhawks won by a final score of 17-2 in eight innings. 

Jarek Woodward (2-4) took the win on the mound for the Redhawks and Caleb Rutledge (1-3) took the loss for the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks will be back in action Tuesday April 23rd as they travel to Houston, Texas to take on the Houston Christian Huskies in a midweek game. First pitch is set for 3:00 P.M
