Lumberjacks Drop Final Game against Oral Roberts

TULSA, OK – Oral Roberts defeated Stephen F. Austin 9-1 winning their only game of the three-game series. ORU improves to 8-4 while SFA falls to 5-7.

The Lumberjacks came out the gates hot with Alex Rodgers starting the game with a lead-off double down the left field line. A couple of batters later, Cal Martin brought in Rodgers with a sacrifice fly to center field. SFA jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring the only Lumberjack run of the day.

Conner Woods was the starting pitcher for today and posted a quality start for SFA with a stat line of six innings, three hits, two earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. Woods only allowed two base runners in the first three innings and gave up the two runs in the fourth inning with an Oral Roberts two-run homer to left field.

The score remained 2-1 going into the eighth inning, then the Golden Eagles broke the game open with a seven-run bottom half of the inning. The Golden Eagles forced the Lumberjacks to go through three pitchers in the inning as they were able to collect four singles, a walk, a hit batter, and another two-run home run.

The Lumberjack bats were silenced today as they were only able to pick up four hits on the afternoon. Those hits coming from Peyton ParkerNolan BrownScout Sanders, and Rodgers double in the first inning. Even with today’s loss, the Lumberjacks still picked up the series win against Oral Roberts, winning 2-1.

SFA now looks forward to their second game against Prairie View A&M on the season, this time taking place on their home field in Prairie View, Texas.
