Obituary
The funeral service will be held at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches at 10:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2025. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Little’s Chapel Cemetery. A lunch will be provided at Chireno Baptist Church following the services.
Ethel Mae Singleton was born on July 12, 1928, in Foreman, Arkansas to William Jackson and Nellie Mae Haynes. She left this earth peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 96.
Those left to cherish her memory include: Children: Howard Davis and Angie of Henderson, Kenneth Davis of Mt. Enterprise, Debrah and Jim Owen of Chireno, Raymond Davis of Huntsville. Grandchildren include: Carolyn and John Wink of Henderson, Jason and Erin Brown of Nacogdoches, Elizabeth and Chris Reeves of San Antonio, Melinda and Mark Johnson of Nacogdoches, and James Jr. and Tiffany Owen of Ft. Greeley, Alaska, 14 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Marilyn and Leroy Anderson of Kountze, her adopted daughter, Rusti Gail Allen, of Blackjack, as well as numerous friends, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Glyn Singleton, Frank Davis, the father of her children, two sons: Rodger Davis and Gary Davis, grandson Shawn Dale Davis, her two brothers: Sydney Haynes and Charles Haynes, and daughters-in-love Dian Davis and Maxine Davis.
Ethel, (Mamaw, Grandma, Mama, Mother) as she was called, worked hard to support her 6 kids. She worked at Bright Coop for 20 + years, piece milling wooden chicken coops, owned and operated the Ethel’s Café in Chireno, and later Melrose Market in Melrose. She also sold Avon for 25 years and loved every minute of it. She was a faithful member of Chireno Baptist Church. She loved her children dearly and was happiest when she was surrounded by her dear family and friends.
Pallbearers include: Jason Brown, Jared Brown, Jerry Brown, Randall Metteauer, Michael Owen, Hunter Wink.
