Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Cheryl Brady has announced she is a candidate for the at-large position on the NISD School Board. The upcoming election is scheduled for May 3.
In making her announcement, Ms. Brady said several members of the community had encouraged her to run for the position and that she feels a calling to do so. “People who know me well know that my faith is paramount to me,” she said. “I earnestly believe this is something God has called me to at this point in my life and I intend to honor that call.”
Ms. Brady has been a resident of Nacogdoches since 2019, when she and her husband, the late Donald Brady, relocated here. During that time, Ms. Brady has become a fixture in the volunteer community. She is a member of First Christian Church of Nacogdoches where she serves as Sunday school teacher, Stephen Minister and Deaconess. She has also served as board secretary. She is also in her fourth year of service with Village Nac, serving in a full-time volunteer role as Chief of Staff. In addition to teaching Bible studies in her Village Nac role, Ms. Brady also serves as board secretary and mentor and serves as Chaplain for the Nacogdoches County Republican Women. She has authored and published two Christian inspirational books and writes a monthly column, The Refuge, for local newspaper Around the Town.
A native of El Dorado, Arkansas, Ms. Brady is a graduate of Southern Arkansas University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Upon her graduation, she received her commission through Army ROTC as an Ordnance Officer as well as a Distinguished Military Graduate. She also received her master’s degree in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology.
Her military career has taken her to the far corners of the globe including a company command in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War, Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990 and in Iraq, where she served as the Multi-National Forces-Iraq Strategic Effects Liaison Officer to the US Embassy Political and Political Military sections. LTC (R) Brady’s military awards and decorations during her distinguished 28-year career are numerous and include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Army Superior Unit Award and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Ms. Brady is seeking the school board position currently held by Board Member Kallie Pitcock. Election day for the NISD school board is May 3.
