Yvonne Easley Chaney, 87, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

A visitation will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 11, 2023 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, with interment following at Sunset Memorial Park.

Yvonne was born September 4, 1936 in Jasper, Texas, to V.O. and Della Hobson Easley. She attended school in Jasper graduating in 1954. Yvonne showed an early interest in music playing the piano, accordion, and at 16 joining the Buna Quartet singing gospel music on the radio and around Texas. One afternoon before singing at a revival, Yvonne was introduced to the love of her life, Elton Chaney. A long-distance courtship began with letter writing and seeing each other at concerts and revivals. After graduation, Yvonne enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University continuing her relationship with Elton. While at SFA, she was a member of the Fideles. In June of 1955, she was asked to participate in the Miss Nacogdoches Pageant and won the title. By December, with the possibility of Elton having to report for military service, they decided to marry on December 23, 1955 at her parent’s house. Yvonne worked in the business world while Elton was a high school math teacher. In November of 1956, they had their first child, Teddy Jean, followed by Cindy Lynn born in 1963. Immediately following Cindy’s birth, Elton accepted a position teaching math at SFA. Yvonne took this time to continue her classes receiving a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Education. Yvonne spent 29 of her 30-year career teaching for Nacogdoches ISD. 28 of those years were spent in first grade. She was an excellent cook and seamstress spending many nights making clothes, drill team uniforms, and prom dresses for her girls. Saturdays meant traveling with Elton to collegiate sporting events which led to her becoming a true sports fan herself. Being a mother to girls, Yvonne developed a special bond with her nephews, Steve and Ron Hyden considering them her sons. Yvonne answered to many different names, but her favorite was when she became a Sassy to her grandsons, Blake and Kyle. Many hours were spent playing games with her boys including Blake’s attempt to teach his Sassy how to play poker using her leftover buttons as poker chips. She and Elton never missed either of the boys’ school or sporting events. Retirement brought Elton and Yvonne time spent antique shopping with several trips to their beloved Branson, Missouri.

She is survived by children Teddy Farley, Cindy and Jerry Winfield; grandchildren Blake and Kay Winfield, Kyle Winfield and girlfriend, Morgan Langlinais; brother Gene Easley; nephews Steve and June Hyden, Ron and Beverly Hyden, Thunder and Becky Easley, Buchanan and Deidra Easley; niece Debra and David Shaddock. She is also survived by many loving great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Ted Easley.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Magnolia Court and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
