Obituary

Warner Van Sanders passed away on July 29, 2024 at his home in Nacogdoches. Warner was born on September 13, 1960 to Fred “Buck” and Golda Sanders. His brother Gail preceded him in departing this life, and he is survived by sisters Sonya Worley (formerly Cunyus) and husband, Joel, and Linda Jo Bowers and husband, Roy. Warner fostered, officially and unofficially, over 60 children in his lifetime and adopted 7 boys: Chris, Michael, Will, Taylor, Jonathan, Steven and Andrew. Warner was active with the Nacogdoches County Foster Family Association. He leaves many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, friends and family who cherish his memory.

Warner completed the nursing program at Angelina College and also completed his BSN at Stephen F. Austin State University. As a registered nurse, he demonstrated strong clinical skills, excellent patient care and developed lifelong friendships amongst his co-workers. He was the friend and nurse you could call at any time of day or night and he would be there to lend a helping hand.

Warner worked in many departments at Nacogdoches Medical Center, including a directorship position of a nursing department. He worked in various places and eventually joined St. Luke’s Memorial Health System of East Texas. At one time he was the Chief Nursing Officer for the Livingston facility.

Warner had a big heart for helping people and hundreds of people felt his love and generosity in many ways. Warner loved to prepare large meals to feed many people and he loved to travel with family and friends.

There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Warner’s life on August 10th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the North Street Church of Christ in Nacogdoches.
