On Friday August, 1, 2025 around 1:30 pm, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office responded to a missing person call in the 4000 block of Cr. 350 in the Chireno community. Upon Arrival deputies obtained information that Syndey Alvers was last seen on Thursday July 31, 2025 around 4:30 pm at his residence. Alvers, who is 88 years of age, suffers from dementia and is known to frequently walk around the area.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office immediately started organizing a search for Alvers with extensive help from other organizations along with the community. Shortly before dark, Alvers was found less than a half mile from his residence lying in a pasture surrounded by tall grass and brush. Syndey Alvers was deceased at the scene, and it was apparent that he had been deceased for some time before he was found.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office along with the Texas Rangers are investigating his death. At this time the cause of death is unknown. Justice of the peace, Pct. 3 Judge Goerner responded to the scene and an autopsy was ordered.
The Sheriff’s office would like to thank all our volunteer fire departments, along with the Hudson Search and Rescue, Pct. 4 Constable Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety along with everyone in the Community who came out to assist in the search for Mr. Alvers.
