Below is a description of the work planned for Oct. 12 through Oct. 16 in TxDOT’s Lufkin District.
Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.
Nacogdoches Area Office
(Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)
Nacogdoches County construction projects
- US 59, intersection improvements at SL 224. Crews will continue working on the SL 224 bridge and SH 7 retaining wall.
- BU 59, SH/BS 7, SH/BS 21, and FM 2259 striping. Curb and road repairs will continue.
- FM 2259, widening and improvement. Drivers should stay alert for lane closures as the contractor continues preparing the right-of-way and works on driveway pipe installations.
- US 59, turn-lane extensions. Cement treating is planned at the north end of the project near Woodland Hills in Nacogdoches County. Daily lane closures will occur.
- US 259, overlay between SH 204 and FM 698. Hot mix will be laid, and workers will continue milling the old road surface. Stay alert for lane closures as work progresses.
Nacogdoches County maintenance projects
Maintenance crews will continue seal coat work on SH 21 west. Base repairs will be made on FM 95. Herbicide application, sign maintenance, and road patching are also planned.
Sabine County construction projects
- US 96, road rehabilitation. The contractor will be laying hot mix and working on driveways.
Sabine County maintenance projects
Seal coat will continue on FM 83, and crews will begin prepping FM 1592 as well. Herbicide application and sign maintenance will also occur.
San Augustine County maintenance projects
Work will occur on FM 226 and SH 21. Crews will also work on signage and apply herbicide around the county.
Shelby County maintenance projects
Base repairs and overlay work will occur on FM 3172. Sign maintenance, herbicide application, and patching are also planned.
Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)
Angelina County construction projects
- US 59, Redland Project. Cement treatment will occur during the day while paving and concrete pouring will happen during night hours.
- Business (BU) 59/Timberland Drive, resurfacing, and striping. Nighttime repair work is expected to begin in the coming week in the 1100 block of Timberland Drive. Drivers should stay alert for equipment and workers in the area.
- Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation. Road rehabilitation and bridge work will continue. Drivers will need to obey the temporary traffic signal and follow a pilot vehicle through the area.
- State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes. Prime coating on the Southwood Drive exit ramp is planned, as is work on illumination and large signage. No lane closures are expected.
- SL 287, district-wide bridge and culvert maintenance. Crews will be cleaning silt from the culvert on SL 287 south near the Ellen Trout Zoo. Intermittent lane closures are possible.
Angelina County maintenance projects
Crews will perform leveling work along SH 103, patch potholes, and sweep on US 59. Herbicide will be applied throughout the county. Crews will also be working on parts of FM 328.
Houston County construction projects
- SL 304, overlay. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures while shoulder and slope work occurs. Traffic will continue following pilot vehicles near the railroad bridge, where concrete work will occur. Seeding and mailbox work is also planned.
- FM 2076, rehabilitation, and roadway widening. Crews will prime and treat the road surface, and work on headwalls at the west end of the project. Traffic will follow flaggers and a pilot vehicle through the construction area.
- FM 227, widening and rehabilitation. Culvert work requiring lane closures is expected to occur this week.
- FM 3016, widening and rehabilitation. Crews will work on drainage structures and clear the right-of-way ahead of construction. Remember to follow the reduced speed limit in the area.
Houston County maintenance projects
Overlay work on SH 19 south will continue. Crews will also apply herbicide, maintain signage, and perform patch work around the county.
Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties)
Polk/San Jacinto County construction project
- US 59, cable median barrier. Crews will be repairing damaged areas near Corrigan.
Polk County construction projects
- US 59, Corrigan Relief Route.Deck panels and joints will be set for the railroad bridge. Concrete work will occur on portions of the main lanes. Crews will continue working on culverts and concrete at the north tie in. Work will occur on concrete barriers along the US 287 eastbound lanes. Shoulder work is planned, and steel forms will be assembled for various parts of the project. Work on driveways along US 287 will continue.
- US/BU 59, Diboll and northern Polk County mill and inlay. Crews will continue removing asphalt and concrete for crack repairs.
- US 59, Morgan Creek bridge maintenance.The contractor will continue working on non-mow areas and riprap.
- County road bridge projects.
- Piney Creek on Carmona Road: Bridge-cap forms will be built.
Polk County maintenance projects
Mill and inlay work will continue on US 59 frontage roads. Sign maintenance and herbicide application will also occur.
San Jacinto County construction projects
- US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards. Crews will work on the U-turn overpass bridge deck. Concrete work on the northbound main lanes will continue.
- SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement. Work on bridge railing is planned.
San Jacinto County maintenance projects
TxDOT personnel will work on road edges along US 190 and culverts on FM 3128. Sign and herbicide work is also planned.
Trinity County maintenance projects
Work on FM 2262 will continue, requiring lane closures. Crews will apply herbicide along SH 94 and in other locations in the county. Sign work, mowing, and road patching are also planned.
Reminder to Motorists
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
