In the Care of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors

Nathan Leon Alders Jr. passed on October 5, 2026, at the age of 73, and was a resident of Nacogdoches, Texas.

“Poogie” was born on December 3, 1952 to Nathan Alders, Sr. and Tommie Virginia Muckleroy Alders. He was raised in a family with a strong Christian faith. His understanding and appreciation for that upbringing grew deeper with each passing year, especially when he faced health scares these past few years. Poogie lived all his life in Nacogdoches, and was deeply proud of his 30 years of service with the Nacogdoches Fire Department. Those he served with became some his dearest friends. He had stories upon stories of fires, rescues, and automobile accidents, but his favorite stories centered around the laughs and comradery he shared with his buddies. Poogie met his countless friends through school, his work, his Army service, and a shared love of things like music and motorcycles. He was a member of the “Soggy Bottom Boys”, a group of musicians and friends who played and laughed together periodically, and had recently joined the Cycleland Motorcycle Club.

Poogie and his wife, Tammy Stanaland Alders, recently celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary, and spent 10 wonderful years making happy memories. He was so proud of his five children, Melody Kennedy and husband, Casey, of Nacogdoches, Kyle Alders and wife, Jenna, of Montgomery, Texas, Stephen Alders of Nacogdoches, Christopher Alders and wife, Madison, of Nacogdoches, and Cade Alders and fiancée Gracie Webb of Nacogdoches. Poogie is also survived by his sister, Donna Rogers and her husband, Marty, as well as grandchildren: Allie Brockman and husband, Chris, Katie Kennedy and fiancé, Chris, Luke Kennedy, J. W. Alders, Stella Alders, Kylie Alders, and Case Alders. His great-grandchildren are Margot, Penelope, and Henry Brockman.

Poogie was predeceased by his parents, as well as his grandson, Michael Derek Kennedy.
