Below is a description of the work planned for Sept. 7 through Sept. 11 in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Lufkin District.
Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.
TxDOT offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.
Lufkin District Construction Updates
Nacogdoches Area Office
(Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)
Nacogdoches County Construction Projects
- US 59, intersection improvements at SL 224. Bridge abutment work is planned.
- BU 59, SH/BS 7, SH/BS 21 and FM 2259 striping – Night-time lane closures are possible as manhole repairs and additional work on SH 21 occur.
- FM 2259, widening and improvement – Barricades will be installed ahead of construction. Lane closures may be required.
- SH 7/CR 724, bridge replacements – Driveway work is expected to require daily lane closures.
Nacogdoches County Maintenance Projects
Seal coating FM 1087 is planned. Preparation for sealcoating SH 7 will occur. Sign maintenance, herbicide application, and patch work will occur in various locations in the county.
Sabine County Construction Projects
- US 96, road rehabilitation – Driveway work and lighting-pole installation will occur. Hot-mix application requiring lane closures is expected to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Sabine County Maintenance Projects
Crews will perform sign work and herbicide application, and miscellaneous work throughout the county.
San Augustine County Maintenance Projects
Overlay work will occur on SH 147 and FM 226. Sign work and herbicide application will occur in areas throughout the county.
Shelby County Maintenance Projects
Shelby County crews will perform base repairs on FM 3172. Sign and patch work, herbicide application and road sweeping is planned for various locations in the county.
Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)
Angelina County Construction Projects
- US 59, Redland Project. Daytime bridge work and night paving operations will continue.
- Business (BU) 59/First Street, resurfacing and stripingStriping, line and symbol painting will occur. This will be a mobile operation and drivers should stay alert for workers when traveling in the area.
- Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation.Milling of and cement treating the road is planned. This will require lane closures, with traffic following flaggers and a pilot car. Work on bridge components and concrete is expected to happen towards the end of the week. Intermittent lane closures will occur.
- State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes. Seeding, striping and lighting work will continue. Daily lane closures are planned.
Angelina County Maintenance Projects
Culvert work will occur on Farm-to-Market Roads 844 and 3373. Pothole patching, herbicide application, and sign maintenance will occur at various locations.
Houston County Construction Projects
- SL 304, overlay. Slope and shoulder work will continue, requiring intermittent lane closures. Traffic will need to follow a pilot car near the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge where concrete work will take place. Mailbox installations and mowing will also occur.
- FM 2076, rehabilitation and roadway widening. Pavement demolition and cement treating will occur. Flex base will be delivered to the project. Traffic will continue to follow a pilot car and flaggers in the work zone.
Houston County Maintenance Projects
Work on the edges of FM 227 will require traffic to follow directions from flaggers. Sign, patching and herbicide work are also planned.
Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity Counties)
Polk/San Jacinto County Construction Projects
- US 59, cable median barrier. The contractor will backfill in some areas. Repairs to concrete and fencing damaged in traffic crashes near Livingston are planned.
Polk County Construction Projects
- US 59, Corrigan Relief Route. Contractors will continue working on bridge decks at the US 287 main lanes and north railroad bridge. Shoulder and concrete work will occur at various locations. Culvert work is planned at the north and south tie ins. Crews will paint pavement markings for the southbound exit and install signage, conduit and electrical components at various locations.
- US/BU 59, Diboll and northern Polk County mill and inlay – Crack repair work will continue.
- US 59, Morgan Creek bridge maintenance – Fill work will occur under the bridge and at the abutments. Slope work will continue.
- County-road bridge projects.
- Piney Creek on Carmona Road: the contractor will continue building bridge forms.
- Long King Creek on Old Bearing Road: Crews will be backfilling near drainage structures and installing riprap.
Polk County Maintenance Projects
Mill-and-inlay work will occur on SH 146, requiring traffic to follow flaggers. Sign work and herbicide application will occur in different areas around the county.
San Jacinto County Construction Projects
- US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards. Crews will continue building rebar forms for the main lanes. Slab and embankment work is planned, and vegetation seeding will occur.
- SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement. Riprap installation and excavation is planned.
San Jacinto County Maintenance Projects
Edge repair will occur on FM 946. Road sweeping will occur on US 59. Sign and herbicide work is also planned.
Trinity County Maintenance Projects
Leveling work is planned on FMs 2781 and 358. A lane closure will occur during the work on FM 358. Herbicide application is planned on SH 94 and US 287.
Reminder to Motorists
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
