Softball Splits Doubleheader Against UT Arlington

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin split the doubleheader against UT Arlington, losing the first game 3-2 and winning the second game 3-0. SFA moves to 19-18 (7-5 WAC) while UTA moves to 16-19 (6-6 WAC).

Game 1

Sophie Hannabas started in the circle for the ‘Jacks. Hannabas allowed one hit in the first, and two in the second before pitching two perfect innings in the third and fourth. The first scoring of the game came in the fifth inning as UTA scored two runs. Emily Berryhill stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the fifth with a runner on second. Berryhill smashed her first home run of the season over the right field fence to tie the game, 2-2. The game went into extra innings where UTA was able to score one run in the eighth to win the game.

Camryn Middlebrook recorded three of the ‘Jacks five hits in this game, and Berryhill recorded two RBIs. Hannabas pitched a complete game and allowed nine hits, three runs, and struck out one batter.

Game 2

Alexis Telford got the start in the final game of the series. The first run of the game came in the second inning when Mallory Webb singled through the left side to score Sydney Carithers, 1-0. Later in the inning Webb and Middlebrook executed a double steal which scored Webb, 2-0. The third and final run of the game came in the next inning when Madison Nguyen singled up the middle to score Gaby Garcia, 3-0. Telford and Brooke Gainous combined for a scoreless, five hit game.Garcia was the only ‘Jack that recorded more than one hit, but five other ‘Jacks recorded a hit in the second game. Nguyen and Webb each recorded an RBI. Telford pitched 4.0 innings, allowed four hits, and struck out one batter, and Gainous pitched 3.0 innings and only allowed one hit.

SFA will head to Huntsville for a series against Sam Houston beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 14th at 4:00 p.m. followed by game 2 at 6:00 p.m.
