Obituary
Paul D Drawhorn, age 96, of Nacogdoches, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
Paul was born in Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas on January 28, 1927. His parents were Elvis E. Drawhorn and Jewel Kerr Drawhorn.
Paul graduated from Rosevine, Sabine County schools in 1944. After graduating from high school, he worked in the defense industry in Beaumont, Texas as a welder in the ship building industry.
He was drafted into the US Army in April of 1945 and received his basic training at Fort Hood,Texas and later served 20 months in the Pacific in the 24th Corp in the Army PF occupation in Korea. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946 and joined the US Army Reserve and served his country until 1962 when he resigned with the rank of Captain.
Soon after his discharge from the service in 1946, he entered Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, Texas as a freshman in January of 1947. He graduated in 1949 with a BS and Masters degree in Administrative Education.
He began his career in public education administration, serving in several public schools in Texas. He began his career as a Teacher and principal in Rosevine, Texas and retired in 1985 from the South Park ISD as Assistant Superintendent of Finance for 23 years. He and Aline, his wife, moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in 1985.
Paul married Nancy Aline Chumley Drawhorn in January of 1949 in the First Baptist Church of San Augustine, Texas. Their courtship began after meeting in Perry Brothers Five and Dime store in San Augustine where she worked as a clerk.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Aline,of 67 years. He is survived by three loving children, Donna Drawhorn Kaszynski and her husband John of Horseshoe Bay, Tx. Two sons, Danny Paul Drawhorn and his wife Diane of Winnie, Tx and Ricky Karl Drawhorn and his wife Robin of Scotts Mills, Oregon. Four granddaughters, Erin Kaszynski of Allen,Tx, Omie Drawhorn of Seattle, WA, Katie Drawhorn of Portland, Oregon and Christi Drawhorn Eastham and her husband Nick of Austin, Tx. Two grandsons, Jason Kaszynski and his wife Adriana of Leander, Tx and Dustin Drawhorn of Austin, Tx and two great-grandson Haden Brown of Colmesneil, Tx and Fitzgerald Eastham of Austin, Tx.
He has two sisters, Geraldine Drawhorn Blackstock and her late husband Clifton of Lumberton, Tx and Jaunice Drawhorn Ware and her husband Bill of Huntsville, Tx.
Paul was a Rotarian for many years and served as President of the West Beaumont Rotary Club.
During that time he was selected for the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
He and Aline loved to travel and were blessed to be able to take cruises during their retirement. Paul loved the game of golf where he enjoyed many games with friends over the years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches and a long time member of the Open Door Sunday School Class.
Mr. Drawhorn’s children would like to express their deepest gratitude to his caregivers Mrs. Lou LeBlanc, Mrs. Contrisha Richards and Bonita Chavis. He deeply appreciated these wonderful women who cared for him.
A graveside service will be held at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery at the mausoleum at 11 am on Monday, April 17, 2023 in Nacogdoches,Tx .
