Obituary
Nanette Briley, beloved matriarch and cherished soul, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 9th, in Houston, Texas. Born on January 22, 1935, Nan was the eldest daughter of Ollie Keith Barfield and Nettie Lucile Mixon Barfield, growing up amidst the warmth of family in the areas around Moultrie, Georgia, alongside her 10 siblings.
In her journey through life, she married Bill Jarvis in Moultrie, Georgia before moving to Houston, Texas and welcoming two sons, Richard Daniel Jarvis and William Steven Jarvis, whom she adored with every fiber of her being. Though circumstances led to separate paths after 25 years, Nan’s capacity for love of her boys remained undiminished.
Later, destiny brought Nan into the arms of AJ Briley, and on August 18, 1981, they sealed their union in marriage. Their love was a beacon of inspiration, shining brightly for 37 years until AJ’s passing. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, from their shared passion for RV-ing across America to the simple joys of caring for each other and their family and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Nan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, AJ Briley, and brothers: Paul Barfield, Olin Barfield, Ronnie Barfield, Riley Barfield, Murray Barfield, and Rodney Barfield.
Nan leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, embodied by her surviving family: her son William Steven Jarvis and wife Traci, daughter-in-law Alysa Jarvis, sisters Laverne Sealy, Phyllis Painter, Carol Jackson and Melanie Dorsch, grandchildren Crystal, Tabitha, Jake, Chasity, Andy, Daniel, Hannah, Jordan, and Ali, as well as twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Nan’s love and resilience touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her spirit, stories and laugh will forever live on in the memories she created and the love she shared. Though she may have departed from this world, Nan’s legacy of love will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched.
