Obituary

A Memorial Service with military honors for Constance “Connie” Fletcher, 85, of Nacogdoches will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home with Pastor John Cain officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home.

Connie was born September 24, 1938 in Johnstown, OH to Loretta and Dwight Riehle and passed away in Tyler, TX on June 11, 2024, at age 85.

She joined the Air Force in 1956 and traveled the world as an Airman 2nd Class, Flight Traffic Specialist.  It was during this time that she met Gailon Fletcher, an Air Force navigator and pilot.  They married in 1960 and had been married nearly 60 years at the time of Gailon’s death in 2019.

After Gailon’s retirement from the Air Force in 1976, they bought a farm in Nacogdoches and resided there until she moved to the Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler, TX in 2022 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.  She was very active in the VFW Auxiliary, and served in many capacities on the local, district, and state levels.  She loved God, her family, her country and was a very proud veteran.

She was especially proud of her two grandsons, their wives, and her four great-grandchildren, who were the absolute joys of her life!

She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Gailon; infant twins, Janice Marie and Gailon K Fletcher; daughter, Laura Lea Fletcher; and her sister, Becky Riehle Thompson.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Fletcher Fox and her husband Mike Fox of Tyler; two grandsons Christopher Fox and his wife Bessie of Dallas, and Steven Fox and his wife Lindsay of Haslet; four great-grandchildren Jackson Fox, Tyler Fox, Hampton Fox, and Townsend Fox; one brother, Brian Riehle and his wife, Angela of Palm Coast, FL; her brother-in-law Lonnie Fletcher and his wife Carol of Tyler; her sister-in-law Robbie Kibbe of Beaumont; her sister-in-law Terry Fletcher of Tyler; her brother-in-law Ronnie Thompson of Zephyrhills, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends, including her “bonus” daughter, Connie Tomerlin.

The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to her caregivers and staff at Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home, and to the staff at Heart-to-Heart Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the VFW Auxiliary, Post 3893, 2406 Hunter Rd., Nacogdoches, TX  75964
