Chamber luncheon to highlight TxDOT bicycle plan, seeking community input.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce will host its Fourth Friday Luncheon on Friday, July 24, featuring a presentation on the Texas Department of Transportation’s District Bicycle Plan and an opportunity for community members to provide feedback on future bicycle connectivity and safety improvements.

The presentation “Better Biking Begins with You” will feature representatives from ACTIONetwork, working with the TxDOT Lufkin District, who will share information about the ongoing bicycle planning process and gather input from attendees.

The TxDOT District Bicycle Plan aims to improve safety, connectivity and access for people who bike throughout Texas while supporting recreation, tourism, local mobility and future transportation projects. The plan will identify bicycling needs, evaluate where improvements may provide the greatest benefit and help guide future project development and investment decisions.

The Lufkin District includes Angelina, Houston, Nacogdoches, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby and Trinity counties. The plan focuses on practical improvements, including safer shoulders, lower-stress routes through communities, improved roadway connections and better access to schools, parks, downtown areas, trailheads and civic destinations.

Community feedback is an important part of the planning process. Attendees will have the opportunity to share locations where bicyclists experience challenges, including roads that may feel unsafe, difficult intersections, visibility concerns, pavement issues or areas where improved bicycle access could strengthen community connections.

“Public input helps provide a clearer picture of the transportation needs within our communities,” said Kelly Augustine, president and CEO of the Nacogdoches County Chamber. “This luncheon gives local businesses and residents an opportunity to learn more and share feedback that can help influence future planning.”

The luncheon will also include attendee drawings. Commercial Bank of Texas will sponsor a $50 giveaway, and all Chamber members are eligible for a $250 cash prize drawing sponsored by Carr, Riggs & Ingram. Winners must be present.

The Fourth Friday Luncheon will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, at The Fredonia Hotel & Convention Center, 200 N. Fredonia St., in downtown Nacogdoches.

Registration is $30 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members. Reservations are requested by noon Wednesday, July 22. Click and register online or email your reservation or call 936-560-5533.
