McDonald (Don) Henley passed away suddenly at his home in Alto, Texas on May 7 th , 2024. He was 88 years old. Don was born to Alfred and Willie (Gilbert) Henley in Weches, Texas on April 10th, 1936. He graduated from Glover High School Class of 1954. Don is survived by Frances his wife of 66 years, Daughter Beverly Bowman and husband Larry, Son Donald Lyn Henley and wife Ann, Brother Danny Henley and wife Pam; Grandchildren: Shandy Bowman and partner Brett Weaver, Chase Bowman and wife Akira, Brianna Berryhill and husband Chase, Bryce Henley and wife Carsyn and Adilyn Henley;Great-Grandchildren: Abbi, Cainon, Averi, and Creed Bowman, Kenleigh Berryhill, and Pepper Lyn Henley Don faithfully attended A. Frank Smith Methodist Church as long as he was physically able. He worked as a truck driver and welder, but spent most of his work life as a manager in the garment industry. Don loved welding and owned a small welding business in Alto. Don loved helping people. He was a cattle owner and enjoyed working cattle. Fishing and hunting were some of his favorite hobbies. For his family he passed down his many skills, craftsmanship, the value of hard work, and how to live from the land. As we say good bye to Don, Dad, and Pa we cherish the memories of time spent with him at his favorite places- the shop, his barn, the pasture, the cabin, in the woods, on the Neches River and in the home he built with the love of his life. For his later years, we will remember his smile and the way his face lit up as he watched and interacted with small children whenever and wherever he could.
His life will be celebrated on May 11th, 2024 at 2pm at Allen Funeral Home in Alto, Texas. A visitation will begn at 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Alto City Cemetery.
