93 Years Old

Obituary

Maxine James, loving lifetime wife of the late George R. James passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023 at the age of 93 years.  Maxine and George lived in Alto for a lengthy period of their lives.  They gardened, farmed and fished together until George’s death in 2004.  They loved to camp out and fish on Lake Livingston, play cards or dominoes and walk in the woods next to their home.

After George’s death, Maxine moved to what was named “the little yellow house” in Rusk that once belonged to her deceased mother, Vassie Jenkins.  Maxine lived alone, with her cats, until it was necessary for her to move to a nursing home.

Maxine James leaves a loving sister, Katherine Jenkins Phillips, who resides in Rockport, Texas.  Maxine had many friends and relatives and was a sharing friend and relative.  Her heart was as large as the moon.  She would feed every stray animal or person.  Maxine and “Kathy” loved to take Saturday trips to Tyler for antique shopping.  Maxine left behind, besides her sister, cousins Norma Berry Bairfield, Nathan Cummins and wife Janet, both in Rusk, Cynthia Cummins, Paul Lively of Houston and Candy Lively of Rusk.

Maxine leaves this earthly life with contentment, knowing that she has the love of her friends and family and is looking forward to seeing her deceased family who are all waiting eagerly and lovingly for her.
