NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The conducting talents of Oliver Yan, graduate student in the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University, will be spotlighted when the Symphony Orchestra performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
Yan, who is from Hong Kong, is earning a master’s degree in conducting from SFA. The program will include three major works: “Der Freischütz” Overture by Carl Maria von Weber; “Les Preludes” by Franz Liszt; and L’Arlésienne Suite No. 1 by Georges Bizet.
“The program consists of major orchestral works that are both an appropriate challenge for the orchestra and for a young conductor,” said Dr. Gregory Grabowski, director of orchestral activities at SFA and the Symphony Orchestra’s conductor. “The Liszt is especially challenging and will be a major workout for both the orchestra and the conductor.”
Concert tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students and youth. To purchase tickets, call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 468-6407 or visit finearts.sfasu.edu. For additional information, contact the SFA School of Music at (936) 468-4602.
