EUGENE, OR. – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks men’s basketball team (5-5, 0-2) gets set for one of the biggest games in program history as they travel to Eugene, Oregon to battle the No. 12th ranked Oregon Ducks (9-1, 1-1).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks close out their four-game road streak in Oregon, looking to pull off an upset over the 12th ranked Ducks. The ‘Jacks will be looking to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon after dropping a pair of conference games over their previous two road games at UT Rio Grande Valley and A&M Corpus Christi. This will be the Lumberjacks first game in the last eight days following a stretch of three games in nine days.
Scouting Report-SFA:
Senior guard Matt Hayman has been the backbone of the Lumberjacks offense this season leading the team with a 12.3 points per game. Hayman has been just as dominant defensively for SFA as he has swiped a team-high 21 steals. Nana Antwi-Boasiakocontinues to be a steady presence in the Lumberjack lineup averaging 10.8 ppg, while leading the team in rebounds with 79 for an average of 7.9 rebounds per game and blocking a team-high 11 shots. Keon Thompson will look to continue to build momentum from his first game as a Lumberjack against UTRGV in which he posted 20 points and four assists. Senior guard Myles Jenkins has appeared in all 10 games, eight as a starter, and is the fifth leading scorer at 7.3 ppg for the Lumberjacks and forward Keith Lamar has been key off the bench averaging 6.2 ppg.
Ducks at a Glance:
The Oregon Ducks will be looking to get back in the win column on Sunday as they close out a mini two-game homestand against SFA. In their last time out, the Ducks fell 73-71 to the UCLA Bruins on a heartbreaking buzzer-beater, three-pointer, from the Bruins to hand Oregon their first loss of the season. Prior to the loss, the Ducks had posted a pair of wins over fellow ranked opponents as they defeated 20th ranked Texas A&M and 9th ranked Alabama in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas.
Scouting Report-Oregon
Nate Bittle has been the MVP on both ends of the court for the Ducks leading the team in several categories including scoring with 14.4 ppg, rebounds with 91 (9.1 rpg), and blocks with 20. Jackson Shelstad has been a kick starter for the Oregon offense this season as he is second on the team in scoring with 11.3 ppg, while leading the team in assists with 34. Keeshawn Barthelemy and TJ Bamba round out the Oregon offense as they both average 11.0 ppg for the Ducks this season.
Series:
Sunday’s matinee matchup will feature the third all-time meeting between these two schools, with Oregon leading the all-time series 2-0. Sunday will feature the first time these two schools have squared off with each other in over a decade, as their last meeting came in 2011 with the Ducks claiming a 55-45 win over SFA at home.
