Lumberjacks Fall to Mavericks in Game Two

Arlington, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell to the UT Arlington Mavericks in game two of a three game conference series.

The Mavericks got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning plating one run to lead 1-0 after two complete innings. UTA was able to extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs to lead 5-0.

The Lumberjacks were able to cut into the Mavericks lead in the top of the fifth inning. After back-to-back one out singles by Cole Hill and Brock KnoerrPeyton Parker singled to center field to score Cole Hill and get the Lumberjacks on the board. Tom Biggs came to the plate next and continued the hit parade crushing a double down the right field line to score Brock Knoerr. SFA was able to string together four consecutive hits but UTA got out of the inning after limiting the Lumberjack damage to two runs. After five complete innings UTA led 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh UTA extended their lead once again plating four runs to lead 9-2. Despite their 11-hit performance the Lumberjacks fell short and lost by a final score of 9-2.

Caylon Dygert (3-2) took the win on the mound for UTA and Jack James (0-2) took the loss for SFA. Mavericks’ reliever Joe Steeber also earned his first save of the year.

The Lumberjacks will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 24th for the final game of the series against the Mavericks. First pitch is set for 1 P.M. CST. You can watch the game on ESPN+ or keep up with all the action on social media and live stats through the SFA athletics website.
