NACOGDOCHES, Texas – UT-Arlington defeated Stephen F. Austin 11-3 in the series finale between the two teams. UTA leaves the series 21-19 (WAC 11-7) while SFA falls to 18-19 (WAC 11-10).
The Mavericks offense took over today’s match as they scored at least one run in each of the first five innings. UTA then put up three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to expand on their lead.
Tom Biggs drove in the first SFA run of the game with an RBI single to right-center field. Peyton Parker brought in the final two runs for the Lumberjacks, first with a sacrifice fly in the third, then by scoring from third base on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
It was a quiet day for the SFA bats, as their five hits weren’t enough to keep up with UTA’s 14. Biggs was one of four players to collect a hit on the cool and rainy afternoon, going 2-for-3 at the plate along with a walk. Alex Rodgers, Clayton Loranger, and Hunter Prescher were the other Lumberjack batters to record a hit, Loranger scoring the first run of the day with a double in the top of the first. Jason Gonzalez and Colton Castilaw each got one inning of relief on the mound and both were able to record scoreless innings and one strike out each.
Some of the top performers of the series consisted of:
–Alex Rodgers: 8-for-15 (.533), five RBIs, five runs scored
–Tom Biggs: 5-for-8 (.625), four RBIs, four runs scored, three walks
–Cole Hill: 6-for-13 (.462), five RBIs, three runs scored
