Jimmy Crawford Obituary

Jimmy Edward “Poppy” Crawford, 82, of Garrison, Texas, peacefully departed this life on June16,2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 27,1942 in Patroon, Texas, Jimmy was the devoted son of Thurman and Hazel Crawford and brother to Helen Ingram, Karen Crawford, Joe Crawford, Mollie Hall, and the late Rusty Crawford and Pat Williams.

Jimmy graduated from Garrison High School in 1960 where he played football, basketball, and ran track. Soon after, he married the love of his life, Pat, on October 17,1962, and together they spent nearly 63 joyful years raising two wonderful children, Donna Stanaland and Randy Crawford. Jimmy began his professional career with Houston Natural Gas Company, serving faithfully from 1963 to 1977. He then turned his talents and dedication to the poultry and cattle industries, thriving in agriculture until his well-earned retirement in 2011 on the family farm.

Known for his warm smile and sincere nature, Jimmy never met a stranger. He never missed an opportunity to go to the grocery store with Pat, and while she was shopping for groceries he was looking for someone to talk to. He deeply cherished cheering his children and grandchildren from the sidelines and stands. Traveling was another great joy, especially when accompanied by his beloved granddaughters. Some of his fondest memories were made surrounded by family at the deer camp, or with a fishing pole in hand. Jimmy had an immense passion for the outdoors. He also enjoyed a hand of 42 and the “heated” wahoo games with Pat, Peggy, and Allen.

Committed to his community, Jimmy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a proud Master Mason and longtime member of Garrison Masonic Lodge #670, consistently offering his support and fellowship. He also served as a Shriner, extending his Masonic values into service that brought joy and support to others, especially children. Jimmy served multiple years as a Garrison ISD Trustee and for many years he was known as “Coach Crawford” to many baseball players in the Piney Woods Youth Summer Program. Most mornings, you could catch Jimmy bright and early at the coffee shop with his buddies where they would be solving the world’s problems and offering free advice to anyone who dared to listen.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Pat, daughter Donna Stanaland and husband Sam, son Randy Crawford and wife Blair. Grandchildren: Shelby Faulkner and husband Blake, Brittany Wallace and husband Collin, Logan Stanaland, Travis Stanaland, Briley Mann, and Cavan Crawford. Great grandchildren: Evelyn Wallace, Chloe Faulkner, Wyatt Wallace, and Bryson Faulkner, along with many other family members and friends who adored him.

Visitation will be held at Laird’s Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas on Thursday , June 19, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. A graveside service honoring Jimmy’s life will follow at Bethel Cemetery in

Appleby, Texas, on June 20, at 10:00 am, officiated by Shak Arrington. Special music will be provided by Michael Stanaland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Stanaland, Robert Cain, Robert Parrish, Richard Bright, Clem Russell, and Bill Wingate.

Jimmy’s family requests that all family and friends meet at Bethel Baptist Church following the graveside ceremony to join together for a meal and fellowship. Food will be provided by Appleby Mercantile and Jeremiah Moss’s Be Blessed BBQ.

The Lord’s Prayer and Psalm 23 will comfort and guide us as we remember Poppy’s remarkable life and enduring legacy.
