James Stacy Adams, 92, of Garrison, TX, passed into eternity to be with The Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at his home in Garrison Texas. Emily Adams, his loving wife and companion of 28 years, was by his side at the time of his passing. Stacy was born to Jimmy and Mellie Adams on March 28, 1932, in his childhood home in the farming community of Henning TX, just north of Garrison. Stacy graduated from Garrison High School in 1950, and he then obtained an associate business degree from Nacogdoches Business College. He also served his country for four years in the United States Air Force in Japan during the Korean war. He was employed with Vector Schlumberger for 30 years until he retired in 1987. Stacy served loyally for many years with the Garrison United Methodist Church and had been on the church rolls since he was only one month old. He also was an active member of Lions Club International and the Veterans of Foreign Wars well into his later years.

Stacy was the only son of Jimmy and Mellie Adams, and he spoke fondly of his older sister Jewel Long. He always said Jewel was much nicer to him than he ever deserved and that one of the greatest gifts she ever gave him was her four children and his nieces and nephews: Patsy, Annie, Bud, and John.

Stacy grew up less than a mile from his grandparents on his father’s side, and only nine miles from his mother’s family, the Skeltons. The Adams and Skeltons produced 18 Uncles and Aunts and approximately 60 first cousins. Stacy’s East Texas heritage and numerous relatives undoubtedly molded his value system and instilled a true love for his family and life in the country and imprinted his character in a way that kept him continually pursuing the life he loved as a Garrison native. When asked about this, Stacy once said he believed growing up in the Garrison countryside was probably somewhat like growing up in Heaven.

Those who spent time with Stacy quickly recognized that he had many admirable qualities. He had a warm and outgoing personality which helped him become the 1950 senior class president of Garrison High School. Stacy was a loyal friend who enjoyed telling memorable stories to many people he became friends with in Garrison and while working in the Houston area. He always communicated in a way that highlighted the best in people. He never looked for ill intentions but gave people as much grace as possible in every situation.

Stacy had an encyclopedia-like memory. He knew every county seat in Texas, and the population of each of those cities. He was very difficult to beat in a game of 42 because he already knew all the dominoes that had been played. Stacy was a big Garrison Bulldog fan, and he could also recount every high school state football championship winner for each school and class during the 1970’s 80’s and 90’s. While working for Schlumberger, he memorized the parts catalog for thousands of items and was often the go to man when a difficult job needed to be completed for a customer. Stacy’s memory served him well when speaking with anyone about the heritage of Garrison because he was able to remember all the necessary and important connections and relationships in the heritage of most Garrison families.

Emily and Stacy shared many memories together in and around Garrison. One of their favorite activities almost every evening was to enjoy each other’s company taking a ride around town and through the countryside, absorbing the sights and sounds. They worked many years together serving at the United Methodist Church and helping at The Lions Club. They also traveled with friends to many cities around the US and often took short trips to the Houston area visiting friends and places from when Stacy worked there. Stacy and Emily knew they were blessed to share such an abundant life together for 28 years. Stacy was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy and Mellie Adams and his sister Jewel Jackson. He is survived by his wife Emily and his son Jim Adams of Garrison, Janis and Joey O’Kelley of Garrison, Darryl and Gracie Weatherly of Georgetown, TX grandchildren Kennedy Adams of New York, Aaron Hampton of Nome, TX, Matthew Weatherly of Georgetown, TX and Miranda Bentz of Joplin Missouri, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeromy Jackson, John Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Ricky Byrd, Eric Byrd and Doyan Main.

Honorary pallbearers are Walter Jackson, Aaron Hampton and Matthew Weatherly.

Posthumous honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Payne, George Oxsheer, Richard Reeves, Robert Strong and Melvin Beard.
