Obituary

A graveside service for James Clayton Sanders, 87, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Douglass Cemetery with Bobby Smith officiating. Mr. Sanders passed away on January 13, 2025, in Nacogdoches. He was born on December 21, 1937, in Douglass to the late Clayton and Martha Sanders.

He was the son of Clayton Filmore Sanders and Martha Grace Craft. He was a loving father to Missy Jenkins (Rusty) and Doug Sanders.

After 42 years at NIBCO, where he was known as the Colonel, he retired in 2000. Not one to ever sit still for long, he later went to work with his cousin, Charles Blair, at Lube Golf Carts where he worked on and sold golf carts.

He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan and was affectionately known as Papa to all. It was unusual for him to ever miss a sporting event when his grandkids were involved. They could always count on Papa to be there cheering them on! He has 5 grandchildren: Colton Hardy, Mason Hardy, Haylee Garcia (Jesse), Jordan Sanders, and Ethan Sanders. He is also Great-Papa to Monroe Hardy, Zepplyn Hardy, and his soon to arrive great-grandson, Baby Garcia, due in June.

He is also survived by his brothers Earl Sanders and Davy Sanders (Ginny) and sisters Una Mae Nichols and Carolyn McMillan (Jerry).

Papa lived a long full life, and we know he is rejoicing in heaven!
