NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas – A Houston man who claimed he did not do drugs was jailed Tuesday after Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office deputies found several pounds of illegal substances inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Deputies contacted Donte Demond Brown, 44, at a gas station in the 3500 block of South Street early Tuesday morning after observing him speeding through the construction zone on U.S. 59 South. As they approached Brown, deputies could smell marijuana, and asked him about it. Brown denied having smoked marijuana, and said he did not use drugs. Inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, deputies found drug paraphernalia and a bag containing pills which were identified as
ecstasy. Brown was taken into custody. A further search of the vehicle turned up additional ecstasy in the trunk, for a total of 17.36 lbs in 38 individual packages. Deputies also located 12 individual bags of methamphetamine totaling more than 11.2 ounces, and a bag of cocaine weighing 1.11 lbs. While deputies were unable to determine whether Brown had in fact recently used drugs, he was still charged with three first-degree felonies for possession of a controlled substance. Each charge carries a possible punishment of five to 99 years of incarceration and a fine up to $10,000. His bonds were set at $80,000 on each charge for a total of $240,000.
