📰 Weekly Health Inspection Report: Local Restaurants and Stores Reviewed

Nacogdoches, TX – November 30, 2025

A recent health inspection sweep by the City of Nacogdoches Inspection Services Department has uncovered sanitation and safety issues at several local eateries, convenience stores, and facilities, prompting citations for violations ranging from improper food storage to structural damage. The 15-page report highlights the need for improved compliance amid a busy holiday season, with most issues deemed correctable but underscoring ongoing challenges in maintaining food safety standards.

Common violations included discarded food left on-site, unclean surfaces and equipment, damaged infrastructure like ceiling tiles and walls, inadequate handwashing facilities, and improper labeling or storage of perishable items. While no closures were ordered, several spots racked up double-digit demerits, signaling areas for urgent attention.

Key establishments flagged in the report include:

  • Days Inn & Suites (2724 North Street) Cited for 1 demerit involving a yellow bottle spray site with uncorrected issues.
  • McDonald’s (3120 North University Drive) 1 demerit for unclean ice maker vents, requiring immediate cleaning.
  • Total Energy Nutrition (#2, 2400 South Street Suite A-3) 4 demerits, including a handwashing sink without hot water or soap on site— a priority violation that demands quick fixes.
  • Wonder Kids Early Learning Center (818 Park Street) 3 demerits for one site with severely dented canned foods, water-damaged ceiling tiles needing replacement, and unclean vents.
  • Peking Restaurant (205 Creek Bend Boulevard) 9 demerits for employee cell phones stored out of protected areas, uncovered foods, grease buildup from lids, and improper container storage.
  • Clawdaddy’s (3322 Center Highway) 5 demerits related to cleaning solutions in food walk-in coolers and improper storage of containers.
  • Meadowview Assisted Living (Food Service Oakview Center) 2 demerits for keeping walls and shelves sanitary, with easily cleanable cabinets and counters.
  • Swirl and Swig Drink Property (Fredonia Brewery) 3 demerits for needing commissary paperwork and current log compliance.
  • Lucky Stop #1 (1324 South Street) and Lucky Stop #2 (1326 South Street) A combined 32+ demerits across locations, with issues like chemical spills, broken freezers, visible trash and broken glass around dumpsters, a non-functional bathroom toilet, scattered debris, damaged ceiling tiles, and multiple sanitation lapses in handwash areas.
  • Kroger (Multiple locations, including University Drive, North 32nd, and Dairy Department sites) Repeated problems at various spots: 4 demerits for discarded pre-packaged food on site, unclean egg spillages in coolers, damaged walls, missing date labels, and improper ready-to-eat storage; additional citations for one product site spills and spatulas in coolers.

Inspectors noted that many violations fall under priority foundation or non-critical categories, with correction deadlines set from days to weeks. Repeat offenders risk fines, re-inspection costs, or temporary shutdowns.

“These inspections ensure our community stays safe and healthy—businesses must prioritize proper storage, cleanliness, and maintenance to protect patrons,” said a spokesperson for the Nacogdoches Inspection Services Department, echoing recent reports from early November that praised some spots for near-perfect scores while flagging similar upkeep needs.

Full reports, including exact demerit breakdowns and follow-up dates, are available via the Northeast Texas Public Health District’s online portal or the city’s official website. Local advocates urge diners to check scores before visiting, emphasizing transparency as key to accountability.
