Health Inspection Report Week of 1/23/2025

The Inspection Services Department carries out the general health & safety inspections of occupancies requiring a health permit within the jurisdiction of the City of Nacogdoches. The primary function of the Health Inspector is the interpretation, inspection and field compliance efforts of the technical codes and laws. These codes and laws are Federal, State and Local. In addition the Health Inspector with support from the Inspection Services Department carries out the responsibility of data entry, account billing and record keeping.

Weekly Health Inspections: Two Businesses Earn Perfect Scores; Others Cited for Minor to Moderate Violations

NACOGDOCHES — The Nacogdoches health department issued its latest round of food‑establishment inspections for the week of Jan. 30, 2026, with two businesses earning perfect scores and several others receiving minor to moderate demerits. All inspections were conducted by health inspector Ke’.

Below is a summary of each inspection.

Family Dollar – 4720 South Street

3 demerits
Inspectors discarded several canned food items on site and noted egg spillage inside a cooler that required cleaning.

Barkeep’s – 3308 North Street

7 demerits
Violations included a discarded spatula, an unlabeled spray bottle, and the need for an anti‑siphon valve/backflow preventer on an outdoor hose bibb. Issues involving labeling and storage were corrected during the inspection.

Red House Winery – 108 East Pilar Street

0 demerits — 100% compliant
No violations were observed.

Clement Concepts (Inside Pilgrim’s Pride) – 928 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

6 demerits
Inspectors cited non‑working equipment needing repair or disposal, excess dust on ceiling tiles in the prep area, a handwashing sink lacking paper towels (corrected on site), and several damaged floor areas.

Maklemore’s – 2304 North Street

4 demerits
Violations included missing use‑by dates and the need for accurate, visible thermometers in all refrigerators and freezers.

M & M #3 – 119 Beall Street

12 demerits
The week’s highest demerit total included improper chemical storage (corrected on site), discarded canned and packaged food items, missing thermometers in coolers and freezers, unused equipment needing repair or disposal, cleaning needed under the ice maker, water‑damaged ceiling tiles, damaged floors and walls, and a lack of toilet paper in the restroom.

Dunkin’ Donuts / Baskin Robbins – 2805 North Street

4 demerits
Food containers in the walk‑in cooler and freezer required proper storage (corrected on site). Paper towels were also needed at a handwashing sink, which was corrected during the inspection.

Mike’s BBQ House – 1622 South Street

5 demerits
Inspectors noted missing thermometers, improperly stored scoops (corrected on site), the need for cleaning inside cooler bases, and water‑damaged ceiling, wall, and floor areas.

El Roble Tortilleria – 1408 South Street

12 demerits
Violations included an unlabeled spray bottle, the need for an anti‑siphon valve on an outdoor hose bibb, missing labels on self‑serve packaged items, a damaged screen door and flooring, lack of proper hair restraints, and missing soap at a handwashing sink (corrected on site).

Freedom Freeze Dried Foods / Polar Puffs – 1409 South Street

0 demerits — 100% compliant
No violations were observed.

Chill Nac – 207 North University Drive

6 demerits
Inspectors cited missing test strips and an unlabeled spray bottle containing a clear solution, which was corrected on site.
