Obituary
Gene Alwin Wingate, age 80, of Garrison, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024. He was born on June 24, 1943 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Earnest Wingate and Juanita Self Wingate.
Gene had many jobs throughout his life. He was a carpenter, roofer, built cabinetry and finally retired from Nacogdoches County Road and Bridge. Gene was also an original member of the Appleby Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survived by his wife, Ruth Falkner Wingate; children, Susan Wingate, Michael Wingate and wife Cindy, and Deborah Newman; grandchildren, Jeremy Wingate and wife Alisha, Rebecca Gott and husband Adam, Rachel Higginbotham and husband Hunter, Destiny Hickingbottom and husband Brian, Bobby Cartlidge and wife Jess, and Kenneth Wingate; and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Wingate and wife Rusty; sisters, Mary Bronsell, Cindy McBride and Marie Wingate.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Steve Wingate; grandson, Michael Ray Wingate; brothers, Dale Wingate and David Wingate; and sister, Gayla Chandler.
A visitation for Gene will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
Gene will be laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery, Appleby, TX.
