  Funeral services for Elwin “Chuck” Charles Ervin, 90, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Laird Funeral Home.

Elwin Charles “Chuck” Ervin, age 90, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Stallings Court Nursing and Rehabilitation in Nacogdoches, Texas. Born on April 29, 1934, in El Dorado, Kansas, Chuck was the son of Charles Arthur Ervin and Bernice Hilyard Ervin. He graduated from Moran High School in 1952 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1961. His commitment to service and discipline remained a core part of his life. In 1973, Chuck married Diep Ngoc Pham in Saigon, Vietnam. Surrounded by family and friends, they began a life filled with love, adventure, and lasti memories. Together, they lived in Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, where they embraced new cultures and experiences. After 15 years abroad, they settled in Nacogdoches, Texas, where they raised their two children and made a home. Chuck was known to his friends and family by his middle name, Charles, but in his later years, he became affectionately known as “Chuck.” His work ethic and devotion to family defined him. As a skilled electrician, Chuck worked on oil ri for Exxon in Malaysia. After returning to Nacogdoches, he successfully raised broiler chickens for Pilgrim’s Pride for 13 years. No matter the challenge, Chuck approached each task with diligence, pride, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Chuck was also deeply generous. Whether it was offering a helping hand to a friend or lending his knowledge and experience to local business owners, particularly in areas related to home maintenance and chicken houses, he was always there to support others. His kindness and willingness to help shaped the lives of many in his community. Beyond his work, Chuck had a zest for life. He loved running, which began in his high school days, and continued well into his later years. He was also passionate about music, dancing, gardening, cooking, fishing, and wine-making. His ho was always filled with laughter, good food, and the joy of famil Elwin’s memory will be cherished by his wife Diep Ervin; son Mickey Ervin; daughter Jane Eddington and her daughters Danielle Eddington and child Leona, Cassandra Dargan Eddington and her spouse Charles, and their child Kieran, and Nicole Eddington; son Charles Ervin and daughter Briana Ervin, and her children, Carter, Caiden, and Claire; daughter Kim Carter and her husband Brent, and their children, Brandon and Madelyn; son Kyle Ervin and his wife Erika, and their children, Dane and Axel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bernice Ervin; his brother, Elden Ervin; and his sisters, Betty Davidson, Barbara Daughtry, and Phyllis McVey. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Laird Funeral Home, 2116 South Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75964. A Celebration of Life will follow at Millard’s Crossing, 6020 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX.
