Obituary
Doris Evelyn (Means) Haynes passed away on January 10, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas at the age of 93 years. She was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on October 30, 1931, the daughter of James and Pauline (O’Donnell) Means. Later the family moved to Clarksville, Texas.
Ms. Doris had a lovely voice, and was often asked to sing at local weddings, funerals and other special events in Clarksville. She chose to study music in college.
She worked as a typist at Red River Arsenal in Texarkana, Texas until her marriage. On March 19, 1955 she united in marriage with Charles Odell Haynes and they celebrated 66 years together. She then stayed at home and became the family homemaker as they moved around in Arkansas and Texas.
Doris is survived by her two daughters, Donna Haynes of Nacogdoches and Cyndy Haynes Schrader and her husband Brad of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren Adam, Laura and Ben Schrader; and many nieces, nephews and other family members who will miss her.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Tina Christopher and Hilda Ceja for their special love and support during her later years.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Odell Haynes, her parents, and her three brothers, Jim, Don and Jerry Means.
She enjoyed cooking and was noted for her homemade Christmas candies. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren.
Her church membership resides with Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, Nacogdoches, Texas.
