Obituary

Memorial Visitation for Clarence Martin, 70, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 5:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Martin passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 in Tyler. He was born on March 3, 1954 in Hico, Tx.

Clarence Martin would often be described as a man of his word, supporter of his family and friend to many.  He never failed to love those who were closest to him and found great joy in the life he lived.  He was a husband, father, grandfather and brother, roles he held with great honor.  His days were filled with things he enjoyed, including riding his Harley, fishing and hunting.  He also had a great appreciation for collecting knives and guns to aid him in pursuing his favorite hobbies.

Clarence was born in Hico and raised in Arlington, where he lived for many years until he realized the big city was not where he wanted to be.  He eventually made his way to the pineywoods of East Texas and made Nacogdoches County his home.  He was a “girl dad” and proudly raised his two daughters to be strong and independent women and was very proud of them.

15 years ago, he was lucky enough to meet and marry his best friend.  He and Jessica made many wonderful memories and “Dinky” as many called him, happily added her two boys to his list of blessings.  They spent many evenings around a campfire, enjoying the finer things in life as he played his guitar and appreciated the fact that his life was filled with so many wonderful things.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Jessica Martin; daughters, Jeannie McGuire & husband Nate and Misty Whitton; stepsons, Payton Highsmith and Tanner Highsmith; grandchildren, Montana Whitton & Brooke, Dakota Whitton & Joah, Ashton Whitton & Sydney and Jaren Whitton; great grandchildren, Aiden Whitton, Lilly Whitton, Millie Whitton, Huntleigh Whitton, Maverick Whitton and Andie Jo Whitton; bonus great grandchildren, Parker, Grace and Avery and a brother, Donnie Martin & Debbie.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Angie Martin, who was a great friend to him and Jessica and loved them more like a sister would.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Berrie Alfred and Cleta Jo Martin; granddaughter, Ellie Grace Whitton and brothers, Ronny Martin and Earl Martin.
