Obituary

We regret to announce that Wyndell Owen Westmoreland, 78, passed away on the evening of April 5, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas, after a recent battle against dementia. Wyndell was a woman with a genuine spirit of happiness and a generosity of compassion for all those that were fortunate to know her, leaving a legacy of thoughtful care and a desire to help others experience the joy, knowledge, and appreciation that travelling to distant lands and historic locales can bring. While the disease did take its toll on her, the core of her spirit remained untouched throughout her battle, and we will celebrate the woman she was, not the person diminished by this disease.

Wyndell was a devoted mother to her son, Lee Barrett Westmoreland, and a loving companion to her longtime partner Bill Elliott, both also of Nacogdoches, Texas. For over 40 years, Wyndell owned and operated International Tours & Cruises, a full service Travel Agency that has helped thousands over its existence with expert assistance in planning a family vacation, a European grand tour, a last minute business trip, and all manner of trips to destinations both near and far, both familiar and exotic.

Wyndell was also a stalwart supporter of Nacogdoches, both its people and the larger community, as well as Stephen F. Austin State University, from whence her son is a proud graduate and where she worked prior to opening International Tours. Wyndell, almost always with Bill Elliott in tow, could be found rooting for either the Lumberjack or Ladyjack Basketball teams, attending any number of civic events like the Archie McDonald speaker series, or attending and supporting one of her great loves – the musical performances from the School of Music. Wyndell also worked for the betterment of Nacogdoches through her longtime service as a Rotarian and as a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Wyndell is survived by her son Lee, as well as her sister Alexandra Jenkins of Dallas and her brother Robert Owen of Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents C.B. “Jack” Owen and Louise Owen of Tyler and her older brother Clifford Owen of Houston.

A visitation will be held between 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, April 18th at Cason Monk Metcalf funeral home in Nacogdoches. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, in the chapel of Cason Monk-Metcalf conducted by Pastor Kyle Childress.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
