Ward Update

Dear Friends,

Now that the elections are over, it’s time for a ward update.

Boards and Commissions

The city is accepting applications for membership in the following boards and commissions:

· Convention and Visitors Bureau Board

· Historic Landmark Preservation Committee

· Housing Authority Board

· Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities

· Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

· Planning and Zoning Commission

· Zoning Board of Adjustment.

If you would like to know more about the Boards and Commissions, you can find information about each one of them, including the current membership terms at https://www.nactx.us/boards.

If you are interested in applying for any of these boards, you can find the application at https://www.nactx.us/boardapplication.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025 and the city council will appoint members at the council meeting in July 2025. Thank you so much for your willingness to share your time and talents!

Capital Improvement Projects and Downtown Plan

Our city staff is highly engaged in improving streets, drainage and other capital improvements. You can find the status of projects and activities, including maps and significant council activity at the Capital Improvement Program page:https://www.nactx.us/cip

.

Meanwhile, city staff and community volunteers (The Downtown Technical Advisory Committee) are working to complete and finance the downtown plan, focusing on parking and other strategic projects. Their work and current findings can be found at https://www.nactx.us/dtac.

Christmas Lights and Other Interests

I have had some inquiries about how to help with downtown Christmas lights and a few other projects. If you would like to donate funds or resources to expanding Christmas lighting, or any other city improvement, feel free to call me: 936-552-9395. Your ideas and resources are welcome.

Ward Meeting

I have not scheduled a ward meeting since many of you have summer travel plans, but I’m very open to one if you feel the need to get together. I’m also available by phone or for a visit. Just let me know.

Finally, I join you in remembering this Memorial Day all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we may take for granted. I wish all of you many blessings as you celebrate with your families and as you remember…

All good things and many thanks,

Kathleen Belanger
