With a profound sense of loss and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of Vila Juanell Rawlinson, affectionately known to many as “Nae-Nae,” who departed this life on May 26, 2026, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Born on August 9, 1950, in Dallas, she graced this world with her presence for 75 years, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Juanell’s dedication and unwavering commitment were exemplified in her distinguished career spanning three decades in education. Beginning in 1972, she served the children and families of the Spurger Independent School District with dedication until May 1980. Subsequently, she devoted herself to the Alto Independent School District, where she continued her noble mission until her retirement in May 2002. Her life’s work reflected a deep-rooted passion for nurturing young minds and supporting educational growth within her community.

A faithful member of Landmark Baptist Church in Cushing, Texas, Juanell found solace and strength in her faith, which remained a cornerstone throughout her life. Beyond her professional and spiritual realms, she embraced life’s simple pleasures with vibrant enthusiasm. Shopping was her cherished pastime; whether accompanied by a companion or embarking solo, she seized every chance to visit Walmart, a favorite haunt that brought her joy and a sense of freedom.

Juanell’s surviving family members include her nephew Jamie and his wife Ashley Rawlinson; her sister-in-law Becky Smith and husband Charles; as well as her beloved great nieces Sarah McCammack and her husband Mark, Emma Rawlinson; and her great nephew Gavin Rawlinson. She has numerous cousins, college friends, teacher friends and friends from the community that will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carol and Sylvia Rawlinson, and her brother Tony Rawlinson, along with numerous cousins and close friends.
