Mrs. Rodrigues passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 in Nacogdoches.
Vickie was born on July 4, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio. At an early age, she was left with her Aunt Ruthie when her mother passed away. Aunt Ruthie taught her how to be a lady, to love others and always treat people the way she would want to be treated. She also instilled in her that her family should always come first and never take advantage of the time she had with them. Vickie took all this to heart and spent every day of her life living up to what her beloved Aunt Ruthie taught her.
Vickie came to Texas in 1987 and found out how much she loved being here. One day, she caught the eye of a young man who wanted to know who the beautiful lady was that happened to be neighbors to his mother. That young man was Robert Rodrigues and upon their chance meeting, she and Robert knew they were meant for each other. They married on July 17, 1988 and together, they lived a life full of happiness, surrounded by those who were most important to them. Vickie found that her greatest joys came from being a wife, momma and Nanny. She spent countless hours on her back porch watching them play and enjoying the simple ways of life and the sweet smell of her magnolia tree. She wasn’t much for pomp and circumstance. She was happy with the peace and tranquility of being in the country, away from the worries and griefs of life. She was funny and had a great sense of humor, but most of all, she was kind. She never met a stranger and was never heard saying a cross or bad word to or about anyone. Her days here were truly blessed and she will always be remembered as the lady who showed unconditional love to everyone. Always.
Vickie spent years as an associate at Wal Mart where she met many lifelong friends and was able to show her everlasting kindness to others. When she wasn’t working or spending time with her husband and family, she could be found laughing and trying to help contestants keep from getting a “Whamie” on Press Your Luck or ordering her favorite things online (and usually in EVERY color). Her favorite movie to watch over and over was The Sound of Music but she also liked Pretty Woman and Fried Green Tomatoes. Vickie showed no control when it came time to eat either. She loved food and was always willing to try things and see if it was as good as folks said. And the sweets! Goodness knows she loved her sweets. There will certainly be a great treasure hunt to find all her chocolate she had in the house and an abundance of laughter and tears as her favorite people reminisce about the life she showed them all how to live.
Vickie is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Robert Rodrigues; daughter, April Newman of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Justin Knott & wife, Destiny of Nacogdoches; Katy Coutee & husband, Jay of Nacogdoches; & Aaron Newman of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Westin Knott of Nacogdoches; Banks Knott of Nacogdoches; and Nash Coutee of Nacogdoches; and brother Bill Rush of Kokomo, Indiana.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, James Maxwell Newman; special Aunt, Ruthy Bates; and sister, Anna Pollock.
