TXDOT Updates for the Week of October 5-9, 2026

Below is a description of the work planned for Oct. 5 through Oct. 9 in TxDOT’s Lufkin District.

Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.  

TxDOT will participate in the Lufkin Police Department’s National Night Out from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in downtown Lufkin.  We hope you can join us and all the other agencies and organizations who are a part of the event. 

Nacogdoches Area Office
(Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)

Nacogdoches County construction projects

  • US 59, intersection improvements at SL 224. Crews will pour bridge deck overnight on Oct. 6. Work will occur on the retaining wall on SH 7. 
  • BU 59, SH/BS 7, SH/BS 21,, and FM 2259 striping. Maintenance hole, curb, and road repair may require nighttime lane closures. 
  • FM 2259, widening and improvement. The contractor will continue right-of-way preparation, and will work on driveway drainage structures. 
  • US 59, turn-lane extensions. Milling will occur on the existing road surface.  
  • US 259, overlay between SH 204 and FM 698. Work on the road base will require daily lane closures. 

Nacogdoches County maintenance projects

Seal coating will occur on SH 21 west. Patching, herbicide application and sign maintenance are planned at various locations in the county.

San Augustine County maintenance projects

Crews will continue spot-base work on FM 226 and will use flaggers and a pilot car to control traffic. Sign maintenance and herbicide application will occur throughout the county. 

Shelby County maintenance projects

Mill-and-inlay operations are planned on SH 7 and US 96. Sign maintenance and herbicide application is planned at various locations in the county. 

Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)

Angelina County construction projects 

  • US 59, Redland Project. Intermittent lane closures will occur as work continues both during daytime and nighttime hours.   
  • Business (BU) 59/First Street, resurfacing, and striping. Nighttime work is expected to occur in the 1100 block of Timberland Dr./BU 59 on Monday, Oct. 5. 
  • Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation. Traffic will need to follow a pilot vehicle and temporary traffic signals as road rehabilitation and bridge work continues. Expect delays if traveling in the area. 
  • State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes. Widening work will continue on the Southwood Drive exit ramp, which remains closed to traffic. No other closures are expected on this project at this time. 
  • FM 1818, bridge and culvert maintenance. Work on the FM 1818 culvert at Stovall Creek will continue. Intermittent lane closures are possible.  
  • US 59/US 69, cable median barrier. Lane closures are possible while work is performed along US 59 near Livingston and US 96 near Zavalla. 

Angelina County maintenance projects

Leveling work will occur on SH 103 east. Road sweeping and sign maintenance are planned along US 59 and various other locations in the county, as is herbicide application. 

Houston County construction projects

  • SL 304, overlay. Slope and shoulder work will continue, requiring intermittent lane closures. Work near the railroad bridge will require traffic to follow a pilot car. 
  • FM 2076, rehabilitation, and roadway widening. Road base will be placed, and cement treating will occur. Work on headwalls at the west end of FM 2076 will also take place. Traffic will need to follow a pilot car through the work area. 
  • FM 227, widening and rehabilitation. The contractor will continue preparing the right-of-way for construction. 
  • FM 3016, widening and rehabilitation. Work is expected to begin once weather conditions are favorable. Drivers should stay alert for changing traffic patterns and follow the reduced speed limit. 

Sabine County construction projects

  • US 96, road rehabilitation. Daily lane closures will continue while hot mix is applied to the road surface. 

Sabine County maintenance projects

FM 83 will be prepared for seal coating. Sign maintenance and herbicide application will occur.  

Houston County maintenance projects

Maintenance crews will perform spot overlay on SH 19 south. Sign work, herbicide application and road patching will occur throughout the county.  

Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties)

Polk/San Jacinto County construction project

  • US 59, cable median barrier.  Crews will be repairing damaged areas near Corrigan.  

Polk County construction projects

  • US 59, Corrigan Relief Route. Steel forms will be built and deck poured on the US 287 bridge. Deck panels for the north railroad bridge will be installed. Concrete work will occur on the main lanes near Dry Creek and at the north tie in. Bond braker will be applied at the US 287-US 59 southern tie in. Crews will apply prime treatment on the southern main lanes and US 287. Shoulder work will occur near the main lanes and U-turn area. Culver construction is planned for the north tie in. Crews will also work on driveways along US 287. 
  • US/BU 59, Diboll and northern Polk County mill and inlay. The contractor will be removing asphalt and concrete for crack repairs. 
  • US 59, Morgan Creek bridge maintenance. The contractor will continue installing pilings and prepare to set riprap.
  • County road bridge projects.
    • Piney Creek on Carmona Road: Workers will disassemble bridge forms and repair silt fence.  
    • Long King Creek on Old Bearing Road: Guard rail work will occur. 

Polk County maintenance projects

Mill and inlay work will continue on US 59 frontage roads. Sign maintenance and herbicide application is planned as well. 

San Jacinto County construction projects 

  • US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards. Contractors will tie steel for use in main-lane and bridge construction. Milling of the existing road will occur. Work is planned on the main lane bridge decks. Leveling, excavation, and slope work will occur as well. Joint sealant will be applied to sections of road, and concrete panels will be placed for the northbound main lanes. 
  • SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement. Concrete decking will be formed. Rebar forms will be built as well.  

San Jacinto County maintenance projects

Crews will continue widening on FM 946. Sign and herbicide work is also scheduled. 

Trinity County maintenance projects

Edge repair is planned on FM 2262. Sign maintenance is planned on SH 19 and elsewhere throughout the county. Patchwork will also take place at various locations. 

Reminder to Motorists

Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
