NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas – Two people accused of endangering children in a May accidental firearm discharge surrendered to law enforcement Monday.
James and Sandy Stewart turned themselves in on warrants related to the May 25, 2022, accidental discharge of a firearm. Around 8:18 a.m. on May 25, deputies were dispatched to the 3700 block of FM 95 N. in response to a shooting call in which two young children were injured. A 3-year-old child grabbed an unattended handgun and discharged it. As the weapon discharged, the firearm struck the child in the face, causing injury. A second child in the home was nearby, and was injured by the muzzle flash. No one was struck by the projectile. On Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, James Stewart and Sandy Stewart, who are the parents of one of the children injured, surrendered to NCSO deputies at the sheriff’s office and were booked into the county jail on grand-jury indictments. Each are charged with two state-jail felony counts of
abandoning/endangering a child. They have both bonded out of the county jail.
