SPOKANE, Washington- The Lumberjack Track and Field team travel to the WAC indoor Championship in Spokane, Washington. The championship will take place February 24th and 25th.
SFA will try and stake their claim in the WAC championship, equipped with a plethora of talent. Nissi Kabongo and Branson Ellis have been dominant all season long and will look to continue their hot streak. Kabongo is coming off of a 2nd place finish, at the USA Indoor Championships. She recorded a school record of 1.87m in the women’s high jump. Kabongo will be joined in the high jump by highly ranked veteran high jumpers Ayi-Lissa Dotson and Mathilde Coquillaud-Salomon. Erica Ellis will also be a dominant contribution for the women. She currently sits number one in the WAC by over a foot and is ranked tied for 15th in the NCAA. Ellis currently sits on the bubble of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in early March and will look to clinch her spot this weekend.
Branson Ellis finished 7th overall at the indoor championships, with a vault of 5.61m. Ellis has been the most dominant Lumberjack all year, as he looks for a 1st place WAC finish. Clark Otte will be running the 3000m run, an event that he’s placed respectably in all year versus the WAC. Rising freshmen sprinter Malcolm Washington will headline the underclassmen sprinters, for the men.The underclassmen duo of Kayson Elijah and Sultan Bakare will lead the field events. Both Elijah and Bakare will compete in the weight throw and shot put.
This meet will take place from February 24th-25th and will be the final stage, before the best of SFA takeover the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 10th.
