Funeral services for Thelma Maxine King will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing. There will be a visition one hour prior to the service from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Thelma Maxine King of Garrison, Texas, passed away July 4, 2022 at the Garrison Nursing Home at the age of 94. Thelma was born to Jim L. Fuller and Mamie Mason February 6, 1928 in Cushing, Texas. She grew up from humble beginnings during the Great Depression. As a young girl, she picked cotton to help support her family. She has been described as a “precious angel” and her family was the center of her life. Thelma never met a child that she did not love. Many have said that she “rocked so many babies” throughout her lifetime. She was a faithful and active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Appleby, Texas. Thelma was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and involed with the Children’s Church for many years. King, as she was known by all at the Appleby Sand Mercantile, was known for baking her famous pies. She was the “best waitress they ever had” outworking those many years younger than herself. She loved everyone and everybody loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Doyle King, brothers Vernis Fuller, Aubrey Fuller, Jimmy Fuller, Jerry Fuller, sister Luzelle Rawlingson, and grandson Doug Coats. Thelma is survived by sons JD and Gena King of Garrison, Texas, Robert Dane and Kathy King of Garrison, Texas; daughters Judith Maxine King of Bullard, Texas and Reba and Tommy Yates of Tyler, Texas, and brother Wayne Fuller of Woodlands, Texas. Thelma also leaves behind to cherish her memory, grandchildren Brian, Karri, Holly, Jeremy, Angie, Andy, Kim, and 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren with one on the way, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Andy Yates, Kenneth Traylor, Brian King, Jeremy King, Randy Copeland, Kyle Copeland, Clint Copeland, and Justin King.
