Mr. Singleton passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 in Nacogdoches. He was born on December 5, 1956 in Nacogdoches.
Terry Singleton was a man of honor, courage and absolute dedication to the people of Nacogdoches. He was a true leader and hero to those who knew and loved him. Although the last couple of years dealt him some tough times, he gracefully weathered those storms with his precious Donnan by his side. He and Donnan met in high school and proved that high school sweethearts CAN make it through anything. They have spent the last 47 years supporting each other, loving each other and raising their most precious gifts of all, Clair and Clint. Terry’s loyalty, honesty and good old-fashioned morals and values will carry on through them, as they strive to be as much like their hero as is possible.
Terry honorably spent his entire lifetime serving the citizens of the great State of Texas. He worked as an officer for Nacogdoches Police Department, spread his wings into the federal system as a US Customs Officer and eventually returned to his roots at Nacogdoches PD, where he retired after serving for over 40 years and holding the rank of Sergeant. His gift of being patient and poised was certainly what made him stand out as a great officer and leader. Terry was loved and respected and he knew his brothers and sisters in blue were his family as well. The bond that officers have amongst themselves and their family is beyond what anyone can imagine, but Donnan, Claire and Clint all know the true meaning of family because they have a large one that will support them throughout their lives. It is what the blue line defines and Terry walked that line with dignity, courage and compassion. He served each day fearlessly and with a brave heart. His law enforcement family has lost a good one; his family has lost their patriarch; but his legacy will live on forever in both of them.
When Terry was not protecting and serving, he always found things to do around the house for Donnan, or with Clint and Claire. He found refuge in his warehouse where he enjoyed working on his old trucks, restoring a 1970’s Ford and a 1964 Chevy step side. He loved going on cruises with Donnan and spending time with Clint and Claire at the airport or the parks. Terry also loved baseball. All things baseball. He went to many city league games through the years and supported his beloved Astros with great pride. He also spent time volunteering with The Gideons. When he was sanctioned into being a grandparent to his two beautiful granddaughters, his heart was filled with a new kind of joy. He loved them more than life itself!
Terry was a son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and comrade. He was taught compassion and great work ethics by his parents and passed that on, not only to his kids, but his brothers and sisters in uniform. He will remain a hero to all of them.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Donnan; daughter, Claire Singleton of Longview; son, Clint Singleton of Nacogdoches; granddaughters, Aria and Anya Singleton of Kyle, Texas; mother, Norma Jean Singleton of Nacogdoches; sisters-in-law, Vanessa Hospetti & husband, Danish of League City and Jessica Lilly of Georgia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his father, Harold Singleton.
