Mr. Rogers passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 in Nacogdoches. He was born on June 16, 1933 in Douglass.
Billy was born and raised in his favorite part of East Texas where a man’s word was all you needed. He believed in hard work, good company, and the quiet beauty of nature. He dedicated 26 years to the City of Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation department but only after honorably serving his country in the United States Army. He was a Godly man and loved his family without boundaries and enjoyed nothing more than being outside, surrounded by those who meant the most to him. Billy was a man of few words and found joy in life’s simplest pleasures. You could find him most days on the lake or on the front porch watching the world go by.
As a young man, Billy met Bobbie Moody and fell in love. They were married in 1956 and raised their son. Sadly, in 2014, after 69 wonderful years of marriage, Billy had to say goodbye to the love of his life. He spent his time since then with his precious grandchildren just as Bobbie would have.
Billy appreciated a good day of bass fishing and never missed an opportunity to tell stories about the times he spent on the water. He also spent many days and afternoons working in his yard, which he was very proud of.
Billy’s sense of humor and ability to bring life to whatever gathering he was at, will always be cherished by his family and friends. His bright smile, signature chuckle and big heart left a lasting impression and a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Billy is survived by his grandchildren, Whitney King and husband Stephen, great granddaughters- Sadie and Zoe, and Justin Rogers; siblings, Linda Davis and husband George and Harold Rogers and wife Louise; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Rogers; son, Larry Gene Rogers; parents, Amos and Bennie Tucker Rogers; brother, Joe T. Rogers and wife Michell and sister, Shirley Rogers.
Serving as Pallbearers are Stephen King, Curtis Rogers, Keith Fuller, Jake Sandle, Bonner Sandle, Robert McGrath, and David Flanagan.
In honor of his memory, take a moment to enjoy the quiet evening outside or appreciate stillness of the lake, just as he would have.
