SFA Wraps up Day One of WAC Championships

NACOGDOCHES, Texas–  Stephen F. Austin finished up day one of the WAC Track and Field Outdoor Championships. 

The Lumberjacks were able to battle through day one’s tough weather conditions. The men’s decathlon consists of Andrew PhillipsSemion Brodski, and Cameron AntonieSemion Brodski currently is in ninth with 3345 points followed by Cameron Antonie’s 2784 points in 16th. Andrew Phillips currently sits at fourth overall, with 3658 points.  Phillips finished first in the high jump with a distance of 1.96m, third in the 400m, fifth in the 100m, and fourth in the long jump.

The women’s heptathlon consists of Angel Richmore and Chandee BachmeyerAngel Richmore currently sits in first followed by Chandee Bachmeyer in sixth. Richmore put together a dominant showing, placing first in both the high jump (1.73m) and shot put (12.48m).

The Lumberjacks field events were led by Izac Canchola. Canchola took first place in the men’s javelin throw, with his distance of 66.29m.

Jayla Hooper and Breyunna Dowell were also able to secure their spot in the hammer throw finals tomorrow.

The SFA runners were headlined by Nicholas Grullon. Grullon finished first in the men’s 400m hurdle prelims, with a time of 52.54.  For the women, Nissi Kabongo finished 2nd. Kabongo had a 400m prelim time of 59.26.  Riley Elliott also had his own impressive performance for the SFA runners. Elliott finished fourth in the 1500m prelims, with a time of 3:48.71.Day two will get started Friday, May 12.  The morning will begin with the 110m hurdles at 9:30 A.M.  Due to weather, all track times are tentative and will be adjusted if delays occur.
