SFA Track and Field Finishes Season with Two All-Americans

AUSTIN, Texas-  SFA wrapped up the NCAA Outdoor Championships this weekend.  The Lumberjacks finished with two athletes on the All-American Team.

Nissi Kabongo and Angel Richmore highlighted the Lumberjack’s NCAA Championship squad, finishing the season as selections for the All-American Team.  Kabongo and Richmore were both named Second Team All-Americans.

Head coach Robert Hansen was very proud of the four athletes who traveled to Austin, saying “I’m really proud of Angel, Izac, Nissi and Branson.  We have lofty goals as a program, and although we may not have achieved everything we set out for this week in Austin, two second team All-Americans and two Honorable Mention All Americans is a great feat for our program and I’m proud of how each athlete represented SFA.”

In the high jump, Nissi Kabongo finished the year 16th in the NCAA. Kabongo had a high jump of 1.81m in Austin, Texas.  She finishes the outdoor season as one of the most decorated WAC athletes this year. 

Angel Richmore was one of the country’s most versatile outdoor athletes.  Richmore finished the women’s heptathlon 14th overall, with her 5636 score in the NCAA Championships.

Izac Canchola represented SFA as one of the strongest returners, coming off injury.  Canchola finished the weekend 23rd overall in the NCAA javelin championships.Branson Ellis wrapped up his dominant year.  Ellis was the top of the line, when it came to the pole vault.  He sat in the NCAA’s top three for most of the year.

Coach Hansen also said, “All 4 of these athletes had to overcome many obstacles to even get to the NCAA Championships, as all great athletes do, so their resiliency is among their strongest and most admirable attributes.”
