Following a valiant fight against cancer, Robert, 72, entered eternal rest with Jesus on April 23, 2026. He was born in the Houston area on January 8, 1954, to Robert L Redd, Jr. and Irene Bradberry Redd. He lived in Houston until age 12, when the family moved to the farm in Nacogdoches.
He had many fond memories of hunting and fishing trips with his parents and younger brother, Donald. His family instilled a love for these activities that continued throughout his life.
Robert graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1972. Memorable achievements included Acapella Choir and All-Region honors. He was also selected to the FFA National Chorus in Kansas City. In 1972 he was a proud member of the Nacogdoches Chapter Conducting Team that won 1st Place in state competition that year. Robert attended Stephen F. Austin University, graduating in 1976, with a BS in Biology and Animal Science.
While attending SFA, Robert met Paula Nichol in freshman chemistry class. They married at First Baptist Church Dallas on June 14, 1975, and celebrated their 50th anniversary June 14, 2025. A lovely reception in their honor was hosted by their daughters.
Robert was extremely proud of both daughters, Teresa and Valerie, supporting them in all their endeavors. He very much enjoyed being Pawpaw to Ian and Luke.
A 50-year member of Calvary Baptist Church, Robert was a deacon and served in various roles over the years. He was a charter member of the Resurrection Handbell Choir, and sang in the Celebration choir, as well as the Joyful Sound senior adult choir in later years.
In his early 20’s Robert began working at Pilgrim’s Pride, and made a career change to nursing in his 30’s. He had a natural caretaker heart, revealed not only in caring for hospital patients, but also helping his parents, in-laws, and brother when they developed life-threatening health conditions.
After working for 30 years at Nacogdoches Medical Center, including time in ICU and as House Supervisor, he retired in December 2019.
Robert was an active member of Milam Lodge in Nacogdoches, and was a Shriner.
Robert is survived by his wife, Paula, daughters Teresa Morris (John) of Fort Worth, and Valerie Redd of Austin, Grandsons Ian and Luke Morris of Fort Worth, and beloved dog, Lily.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Donald Ray Redd.
