Obituary
A graveside service for Oliver Barclay Knight, 95, of Lilbert, Texas will be Sunday December 18th, 2022 at 2pm at Redland Cemetery near Douglass. A visitation will be held Saturday December 17th, from 5-7pm in the Dickie Allen Funeral Home parlor.
Oliver Knight was born in Beaumont, Texas, to Austin Lee Knight and Cleo Mildred Russell-Knight. He grew up on the family farm in Lilbert with a younger brother, David Andrew (Drew), who died at age 4.
Oliver went to school in Lilbert, Cushing, and Douglass. After High School he enlisted in the US Army during World War 2 as a surgical Technician.
Afterwards he was married to Margie B Hagler from Center Texas while both were going to Stephen F Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. He received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He also received his license as a Master Electrician. He worked in different areas of the country in Florida, Arizona, California, Nevada, and back to Texas.
Oliver and Margie (deceased) had five children. Rupert Tony Knight {(deceased) wife Debbie}. David Rhody (wife Brenda) from Cushing, Karol Lyn from Schertz, Kent Roger from Lilbert, and Brent Barclay Knight from Lilbert. All five went to Cushing High School.
Oliver and Margie owned the Knight Drug Store and Cafe in Cushing for nine years. The last three of those years it included entertainment for families by including pool tables and other games.
His later years were spent on the family farm enjoying eating from the garden and creating challenges for the family.
He loved information on nutrition and exercising. He would stay busy working on small jobs of fixing things and moving furniture around.
Mr. Knight had numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren at the time of his passing. He died Wednesday December 14th, 2022, in Nacogdoches, Texas.
