As part of its America 250 programming, the City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites is adding a second free film screening for the community this Independence Day weekend. On Saturday, July 4, at 1:00 p.m., Nacogdoches Historic Sites will present the classic Walt Disney film ‘Johnny Tremain’ at Zion Hill Historic Site, located at 324 North Lanana Street.

Released in 1957 and based on Esther Forbes’ award-winning novel, Johnny Tremain tells the story of a young silversmith’s apprentice in Boston whose life becomes deeply connected to the events leading up to the American Revolution. Through his journey, audiences experience pivotal moments such as the Boston Tea Party and the battles of Lexington and Concord, offering a glimpse into the sacrifices and spirit that shaped the founding of the United States.
This additional screening expands Nacogdoches Historic Sites’ America 250 offerings by providing another opportunity for the public to engage with stories from the Revolutionary era through film.
The afternoon screening is scheduled between two other community Independence Day events. On Saturday morning, the Old University Building will host the Stars, Stripes, & Songs of Freedom event at 10:00 a.m. Later that evening, the annual Freedom Fest, presented by the Nacogdoches Jaycees, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Festival Park.
Admission to the film screening is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to RSVP through Eventbrite to help staff prepare for attendance. Water and snacks will be provided.
